Geneva Motor Show: Audi reveals Q2 compact SUV

Aside from the power boost the new Performance model also gets several exterior design tweaks; a matt-titanium finish has been added to the frame of the front grille and air inlet duct, while the roof rails, upper edge of the rear diffuser and fins of the roof mounted spoiler also feature the same unique finish.

Audi's Head of Design Marc Lichte said: "In the Q2, we have developed a distinctively geometric form language with model-specific design characteristics". There's also 405 litres of boot space, with 1050 litres on offer when the rear seats are folded. The petrol range includes a 1.0-litre TFSI with 114bhp and should be good for an unconfirmed 50mpg combined, a 1.4-litre TFSI with cylinder-on-demand technology and a 2.0-litre TFSI that produces 187bhp. A 114-hp version of the 1.6-liter, four-cylinder turbodiesel provides the step-in point to the diesel range (in Europe, anyway), followed by a 148- and 190-hp versions of the 2.0-liter turbodiesel.

Inside, Audi's optional virtual cockpit and head-up display will allow drivers to customise displays to show things such as satellite-navigation and media information.

Inside the Q2 is typically Audi but also have a little bit extra to make it stand out. Cell phones with iOS and Android operating systems are integrated into the Auto via the Audi smartphone interface. Other systems in the line-up: adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, traffic jam assist, the lane-departure warning system Audi side assist, the lane-keeping assistant Audi active lane assist, traffic sign recognition and parking and cross-traffic assist rear.

All are four-cylinder units except the three-pot 1L petrol, and come linked to a six-speed manual of seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Its newly designed 3.0 TFSI with turbocharging develops 354 hp. The AWD models will use a multi-plate differential to switch between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as needed, staying in FWD mode most of the time to save fuel. Sports suspension that lowers ride height by 10mm is available, while variable-ratio steering comes as standard. Audi's Drive Select as well as damper control is optional.

Order books for the Q2 open in July 2016 at prices yet to be announced - first deliveries will be in the autumn. "The compact SUV blends the technical expertise of our brand with high everyday utility and emotional character".
