Arian Foster released by Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have announced they have released long-time starting running back Arian Foster.

Foster played in just four games in 2015 after suffering a groin injury during training camp.

Foster, 29, who has been with the Texans since 2009, rushing for 6472 yards in 76 games including four seasons of 1200 yards or more, was going to count for $8.9 million against the cap in 2016.

Foster finishes his 7-year Texans career with 1,454 carries for 6,472 rushing yards and 54 rushing touchdowns.

Foster is due a $6.5 million non-guaranteed base salary in the final year of a five-year, $43.5 million contract.

Arian Foster was told he'll be released by the Texans.

Smith predicted Foster would bounce back next season, but never indicated that comeback would necessarily unfold with the Texans. The Texans said that they wouldn't release Foster for money reasons, and after playing in only 25 of 48 games in the past three seasons, Houston's front office likely felt that it was time to move on.

Foster will be 30 years old when the 2016 season gets underway. Foster's story as an undrafted free agent is one that everyone can relate to.

However, injuries have taken their roll on the veteran running back in recent seasons.

Foster will now be one of several interesting running backs to be available on the free agent market, along with Doug Martin, Chris Ivory and Matt Forte.
