Two of the four martyred soldiers had succumbed to their injuries at the Derik State Hospital, the source said.

PKK terrorists had detonated explosives as a military vehicle carrying soldiers and village guards passed by the Kiziltepe - Derik Highway, the source, who can not be named due to security concerns, said.

Eight PKK terrorists were "neutralized" in ground-and-air security operations in southeastern Hakkari province Sunday, according to the army.

Six Turkish soldiers were killed and one injured on Monday afternoon in an attack by suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the Sirnak province, Dogan News Agency reported.

The attack, in which automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers were used, started around 11:00 p.m. local time, Ihlas News Agency said, and clashes were reported have resumed since then.

Warplanes also bombed PKK shelters and weapons stores in the mountainous Buzul region of Hakkari province, which borders Iraq and Iran, the sources said.

The two-year ceasefire between the PKK and the Turkish state collapsed in mid-2015, sparking the worst violence in almost two decades of fighting.

Tens of thousands of people have died overall since the PKK — considered a terror organization by Turkey and its allies — took up arms in 1984.
