Obama campaigns for Democratic House candidates

Exactly one week after the American commander in-chief clapped, shouted and prodded Clinton to climb aboard Air Force One in Israel to return to the United States, it was Obama who held up the show.

U.S. President Barack Obama cast an early vote Friday in Chicago for Hillary Clinton, his rival for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 and who he now hopes will be his successor in the White House.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has crisscrossed key battleground states trying to get supporters to register and voter early where possible.

The president is headlining fundraisers in his hometown for Clinton and House Democrats' campaign arm. But he said if Democrats are willing "to really bear down in this last month, if we are, as we say in church, cheerful givers, then I think we've got a real shot".

President Barack Obama has cast his vote, stopping by the Chicago Board of Elections to fill out his ballot.

That is one of the aims of Obama's trip home, lending a hand to help Duckworth, a two-term congresswoman from Hoffman Estates, who is challenging first-term Republican U.S. Sen. His first fundraiser Friday benefited the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Kirk won the seat in 2010, defeating Obama protege Alexi Giannoulias in a close race for the president's former Senate seat.

Most public polls suggest Duckworth is leading in the race. Kirk is not endorsing Trump and has called him "bigoted and racist". She spent the next year recovering at the Walter Reed military hospital in Washington.
