In total, the high school graduation rate increased by 4.2 percent since the 2010-11 school year.

Gaps between student groups continued to close but remained large: almost 88 percent of white students graduated on time, 10 percentage points higher than Hispanic students (78 percent), 13 percentage points higher than black students (75 percent), and 16 percentage points above Native American and Native Alaskan students (72 percent).

High school graduation rates have reached a record high of 83.2 percent, continuing a steady increase that shows improvement across all ethnic groups, according to federal data released Monday. Hispanics, African-Americans and Native Americans were around the 70 -to 80 percentile.

The nation's high school graduation rate has risen steadily since 2010-2011, when states started using a consistent, four-year adjusted standard to measure high school completion.

Russell Rumberger, a professor of education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, said in a February interview with NPR that diploma requirements vary greatly from state to state.

Netflix shares soar on huge growth in subscriber additions
However, Netflix has attempted to reinvigorate overall growth with an ambitious global expansion at the beginning of this year. Even better, the company said it expects Q4 U.S. user growth to surge to 1.45 million, versus expectations of just 1 million.

President Barack Obama pauses while speaking at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington, Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, where he highlighted the steady increase in graduation rates.

President Obama delivers a statement on Libya in the East Room of the White House. New Jersey is in the minority of states that require students to pass exit exams in math and English before they can graduate. Students who fail the English 10 or Algebra 1 portions of the PARCC can apply to receive their diploma through the state department's portfolio appeals process. The District improved its graduation rate by 7 percentage points.

According to the White House press release, this shows the progress schools are making to help students prepare of college and careers.

Obama applauded the high school for graduating all its seniors. By 2020, two out of three job openings will require some form of higher education, he said. President Barack Obama said Friday that the violence in Libya "is just one more chapter in the change that is unfolding" across the Middle East and North Africa. The. "We've made it simpler than ever", he told the students.
