Foo Fighters use epic video to kill breakup rumors

So when the band said they'd be making an official announcement late on Wednesday night, fans were readying themselves for a gut punch.

The rumour mill was then thrown into overdrive when the band's official Twitter account posted: "Official band announcement tomorrow night". The next scene features Dave Grohl and Butch Vig speaking about the singer's opportunity to go solo, only this time "something hip", electronica, with laptops, and Grohl instrument-less.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Foo Fighters scramble to replace their now-former frontman.

There's no exact time yet but we will likely have the announcement by the end of the day. The Foo Fighters are not going on an indefinite hiatus and Dave Grohl is not going solo.

The clip shows an egotistical Grohl ditching the gang for a solo career in EDM, creating a surefire hit song called "Phony Baloney". Who knows? But as with everything related to the Foo Fighters, it will happen only when it's the right time, "said then the truculent Dave Grohl".

We'll all be cobbling together shanties from downed airplanes and foraging for canned food in whatever's left of the nation's supermarkets, but the Foo Fighters will not break up.

And why not? As Grohl explains in the following video, "I'm setting them free". Foo Fighters most likely aren't breaking up.

New York Post's "Page Six" freaked out the world earlier this week with a report declaring that Grohl's acoustic performance at the Academy Awards "was his big entrance into his solo career".

Foo Fighters announced the hiatus with their tongues firmly in cheek, sharing a spoof video. "So tonight, as I sit in my Berlin hotel room on our final tour for this album, counting down the days until we return home, I can't help but wonder when we will see each other again".
