It's remarkable that Walt Disney Animation has pulled Zootopia off

Disney covered all its bases with "Zootopia".

Disney can boast a new animation that will equally enthral children and adults. You can see the shock collar in the early concept art above. Usually shying away from controversial topics, this time they delve in head on to one of the most stressful topics plaguing our country right now - racial tension. There's also no short before the movie. She's dreamed of being a police officer her whole life and through dedication and moxie, she made it, graduating top of her class and landing a job on the Zootopia force. After she solves the case halfway through the film, she gives a press conference where she makes uninformed generalizations about predators, and you can feel her sinking in quicksand even if she doesn't notice. The most notable of these coming from the alpha types at the police department who are not shy when it comes to poking fun at her meager size. You know, I just wouldn't want to get eaten out there, you know. Animals are a stand-in for underrepresented people everywhere. But Judy decides to challenge the system and become an unlikely police officer.

Only. Bunnies. Can. Call. Judy's only lead in the investigation pairs her up with a slick talking, con artist fox named Nick (voiced by Jason Bateman). It's too bad that the best sight gag of the film has its own trailer, but this doesn't deter from the hilarity of the scene. Foxes are treated like second-class citizens and everyone succumbs to stereotyping them.

Byron had imagined that Nick was the main character and this was a story about a predator living in an animal world that looked badly on predators. It's a crime thriller (okay, a children's thriller, but still) and finds a way to keep both adults and kids deeply invested.

Plus, there are plenty of pop-culture references and ties to the real world - like a joke about the slowness of the DMV being a result of its sloth employees.

The bright Zootopia is dazzling in its scope - from ritzy Sahara Square to the wintry Tundra Town, and the landscapes and street scenes fascinate.

In addition, Judy is also a wonderful feminist character, an aspirational hard worker who is extremely talented, but also has flaws to overcome. Its Judy Hopps's (Ginnifer Goodwin) goal to live and work there some day, but her chosen profession has her parents anxious. So what's one of the messages in "Zootopia?". So these characters don't exactly get along at first.

Directed by Byron Howard, Rich Moore and Jared Bush, "Zootopia" deals with the raging subject of stereotyping, racism and set prejudices in the best way possible.

There are more messages in "Zootopia" than in Hillary Clinton's private server's spam folder but the film doesn't feel like a Successories motivational poster come to life.

The movie's message about tolerance and not prejudging others sings, and the many chases, interrogations (a weasel ably voiced by Alan Tudyk) and narrow escapes pay off. But if it's going to take that much care to focus on the importance of diversity and acceptance, it should embrace it on all fronts.
