'Come writers and critics': Mixed response to Dylan's Nobel win

We can spend all day naming the songs where he takes songwriting to an other worldly level, but well let the songs speak for themselves.

"He is a great poet in the English-speaking tradition, and he is a wonderful sampler, a very original sampler", the Swedish Academy's permanent secretary told reporters. She drew parallels between his work and that of ancient Greek poets.

Dylan is the most unorthodox Nobel literature prize victor since 1997, when the award went to Italian playwright Dario Fo, whose works some say also need to be performed to be fully appreciated.

If you ask Dylan himself, hes probably unimpressed as he gears up for weekend 2 of Desert Trip tomorrow and a lengthy continuation of his never ending tour. "Congrats Bob Dylan on winning the Nobel Prize". They include "Blowin' in the Wind", "The Times They Are a-Changin" and "Subterranean Homesick Blues".

Bob Dylan was born on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, in the United States. He is the most influential songwriter of his time, who brought a new depth, range and complexity to rock lyrics and freed Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and countless other artists to break out from the once-narrow boundaries of love and dance songs.

Dylan is the first songwriter to have won the prize, says The Guardian, adding his regular appearance in the betting odds "was regarded as one of the longrunning jokes of the Nobels". "Dylan is the brilliant inheritor of the bardic tradition", he tweeted.

Dylan becomes the first American to win the Nobel Prize in thirteen years.

Samsung stops making Galaxy Note 7s as fresh problems emerge
The company issued a statement on Tuesday saying it would be permanently stopping production for the sake of consumer safety.

The Nobel Prize in Literature was the last Nobel prize to be announced, after the prizes in economics medicine, physics, chemistry and the Nobel Peace Prize.

Covach said people who always thought Dylan's music was great now have proof that it was.

Majaw will perform Bob Dylan's songs to honour the legendary singer at a cafe in Shillong on Sunday.

Captivated by the music of folksinger Woody Guthrie, Zimmerman changed his name to Bob Dylan - reportedly after the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas - and began performing in local nightclubs.

The Associated Press reported that Dylan had been mentioned in the Nobel speculation for years, but few experts expected the academy to extend the prestigious award to a genre such as pop music.

In his will, prize founder Alfred Nobel wrote that the literature award should go "to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction".
